Ingrown Toenails Buying Guide
An ingrown toenail occurs when part of the nail presses into and irritates the skin along its edge. The big toe is affected most often, though the problem can develop around any toenail. Typical symptoms include tenderness, redness and swelling around the nail edge.
A number of factors can contribute, including cutting the nails incorrectly, wearing tight footwear, injury, sweaty feet and the natural shape of the nail. If the area becomes infected, pus may develop and you may feel hot or shivery.
Most products for ingrown toenails are best viewed as nail-care or protective products. They can make routine foot care easier or reduce irritation around a sensitive toe, but they do not replace professional treatment when a toenail is badly ingrown or infected.
